WWE Hell In A Cell 2010

Well, two weeks after their incredibly "okay" Night of Champions PPV, World Wrestling Entertainment presents its first of two October PPVs, Hell In A Cell. Are you one of the lucky suckers... er, I mean, customers who paid fifty to sixty bucks on a PPV comprising a whole FIVE MATCHES? Boy, that's a real bang for your buck. No wonder people aren't forking over their hard-earned money to buy WWE Pay-Per-Views.

Anyways... let's get to the goods.

United States champion Daniel Bryan Danielson defeated The Miz and John Morrison in a triple threat match to retain the title. Solid opening match-up. I also like the application of Danielson's Cattle Mutilation move (and Striker calling it such) as well as Morrison's crazy parkour shit. Nice stuff that didn't put me to sleep - a good sign.

WWE Champion Randy Orton defeated Sheamus in the first of Hell In A Cell match to retain the title. A pretty good match for the most part and it told a good story... it just didn't need to be a Cell match; it could've been a street fight instead... but I guess we needed to put this in a Cell because it's the gimmick of the show.

A note on the Cell; this one seems a bit taller and newer than the last one they used. I'd imagine they did this to curtail any ideas someone might have about going up above. I'd much rather they killed the gimmick off, but... whatever.

Edge defeated Jack Swagger in a match that was booked on the fly after a sketch where Edge listed all the stupid things that has happened. Perfectly acceptable wrestling match and a fresh match-up to boot.

Wade Barrett defeated John Cena with assistance from two jabronis in the crowd in a match where a Cena victory would've meant the disbanding of the Nexus while a Barrett victory would result in Cena being forced to join Nexus. I figured Cena would've won this one to kill off the Nexus experiment once and for all, but much to my surprise, Barrett got a strong win here and this just MIGHT - I say MIGHT - revive some interest in the Nexus angle now that Cena has been N-Listed to the group. As for the match itself? Your typical Cena match... nothing to really complain about. The crowd reaction in the aftermath, however... priceless.

Natalya defeated Divas champion Michelle McCool via DQ due to Layla throwing in a shoe; McCool retains the title. Dumb finish, boring match, and then you wonder why I usually skip the Diva matches.

World Heavyweight Champion KANE defeated the Undertaker in the second Cell match to retain the title thanks to Paul Bearer turning on the Undertaker. I guess he never forgave Taker for burying him in SEE-MENT back in 2004... I guess they could go with that angle if they wanted to, but setting that piece of business aside,  it's the same Kane-Undertaker match that I've seen for years on end... except in Hell In A Cell. Two concepts that I would like to see retired on a permanent basis.

Overall, the show had some good matches, but nothing really significant happened here. Cena joining Nexus? Okay, maybe that was pretty much a big deal... but other than that, all the champions retained their titles and there wasn't any real surprises here. For the most part, if you didn't catch the show last night, you really didn't miss much. But it's worth checking out once the DVD comes out because the show was actually solid and worth a look if you want a rare sampling of good WWE PPVs.
