WWE Over The Limit 2010

For the original predictions page that was here years ago, click here.

HEY KIDS! We're going Over The Limit! YAAY!

Nope, not doing it for me.

So on the eleventh anniversary of Owen Hart's accidental passing (and no acknowledgement is made of this fact... possibly due to upsetting the widow), WWE held a PPV in Detroit with one of the lamest names ever... oh wait, the next one is called Fatal 4-Way, isn't it? Aw shit.

Oh well, let's get on with it, then.

Kofi Kingston defeated Intercontinental champion Drew McIntyre to win the title in a perfectly acceptable wrestling match. Drew then demands that Teddy Long declares him champion and gets a Twist Of Fate from Matt Hardy instead... oh well.

R-Truth defeated Ted DiBiase Jr. (with Virgil). Yes, THAT Virgil. And he even has that Million Dollar Belt to carry around. Sadly for R-Truth, said title was NOT on the line. And even sadder for the audience, not a reason to care was found here. The match was a thing that happened and that's about all I've got to say about that.

Rey Mysterio defeated CM Punk. The stipulations for this match were that if Punk lost, he'd get a haircut, while if Mysterio lost, he'd join the Straight-Edge Society. And so Punk gets a haircut or kind of a haircut since it's been years that WWE does the occasional hair match and they still can't get clippers that actually work. Fortunately, Kane comes out to help Rey cut Punk's hair. What a great match. Good action, good drama, and good character bits as well. I was thoroughly entertained by this one.

Tag-Team champions The Hart Dynasty defeated Chris Jericho and Miz to retain the titles. This was a tag-team match that happened. For a show that's called OVER THE LIMIT, you'd expect more exciting stuff to happen, but thus far, only one match came close to being exciting and only one match actually was.

The match between Edge and Randy Orton ended in a double countout when Edge speared Orton through a barricade and both were counted out. Of all the matches that I thought would be really good shit, this one was right up there... but didn't quite reach the mark. Orton apparently injured his arm at a house show and that explains the less than stellar showing. Too bad.

Big Show defeated World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger via disqualification when Swagger hit Show with the title. Show then punched Swagger through a chair, chokeslammed him through a chair, and then completely knock the poor fucker out. This match sucked on everything and suddenly, all those glowing things I had to say about Swagger on the last PPV seems like a dream. What a waste.

There is a Divas title match... I take a break. (For those who care, Divas champion Eve Torres defeated Maryse to retain the title... and it was indeed worthy of being skipped over.)

WWE Champion John Cena defeated Batista in an I Quit match to retain the title. After a brawl that ends up all over the place, Cena threatens to FU big Dave through the car, prompting big Dave to cry his surrender like a total chickenshit. Cena, being the good sportsman that he is, promptly FUs Batista through the car anyway because FU that's why. And so this is the end for Batista; much like Jericho in 2005, he went out a whimpering sack of shit and that's probably the best thing for a villainous fellow. Anyway, it was an okay match, though I'll admit their Extreme Rules match was better.

This was a one-match show and once Punk/Mysterio is done, that's probably the best time to call it quits. Over The Limit certainly did not live up to its name and that's too bad since on paper, it's not such a bad card. In execution, however... meh.
